Vacuum Metalized Vapor Barrier Coatings and Thermal Barrier Coatings

Vacuum Metalized Vapor Barrier Coatings

Vacuum-metalized plastic components and parts are used frequently to improve moisture, oxygen, and even blood barrier properties. They help to reduce or eliminate Vapor Transmission Rates. Examples include food & beverage, packaging, aerospace, and medical applications.

Vacuum Metalized Thermal Barrier Coatings

Vacuum metalized thermal barrier coatings are used to increase the functionality of materials like film, injection molded, or thermos-formed plastic components. Vacuum metalized aluminum has insulation properties by reflecting heat. As an example, home insulation is backed with a reflective metalized layer. Components on spacecrafts are metalized with a variety of metals; aluminum, gold, silver, and combinations as a thermal barrier.

Vacuum Metalized Light Barrier Coatings.

The metallization process is also applied on parts to decrease the substrates light transmission, making it an effective light barrier to reduce the UV exposure of materials, chemicals and even medications.

The Vacuum Metalizing Process:

  1. Parts and components are fixtured and proceed in a vacuum metallization chamber. Utilizing both thermal evaporation and sputtering, we can apply a wide variety of materials including; aluminum, silver, copper, stainless steel, and gold to meet your barrier coating needs.
  2. We can adjust the coating thickness of our vacuum metalizing process to be applied in very thin layers. From 500 angstroms thick up to 25 microns thick, depending on your requirements.
  3. In addition to the metallization process, we utilize wet paint coating processes including; acrylics, urethanes, ceramics and more to help with adhesion and increased barrier properties.
